a friend did not believe me when I told her I cried over a drama series. I am capable of crying over fiction stories, though never on a drama.I hardly watch melodrama, that is.This is slightly easy to cry over, it involved hospital & a father's love.Two things that made me miss my papa.

who would've thought goofy Onizuka sensei could act in a serious drama & cried.The fact that I'd dedicate a post on this drama proved it was a good, tearful watch.Even the hubby could not bear to see it after a long day work.

right.this post is just to remind silly me that I have not completed any of these within the time span: 2 weeks. More so in the sketchbook.Have you been in a situation where you have ideas pouring in but once you start, you tend to forget how you imagined it to be & so you move to a new one which probably excites you more.Silly isn't it? my resolution for this year is to update my portfolio with more variety & stuff, style which shows my strength in design.

Japan map & the beast

I can't resist putting the 'censored' image.I find it's a bit amusing.Ever since the latest single came out a few days ago, I can't stop watching the video.It became an early morning routine, that and the song on loop all day long (it helps masking out the annoying voice of your team mate too - bonus)

I think I haven't felt like this in a while, not since the epic 9 minutes long video of Vinushka 2 years ago.PV aside, the song is addictive.As I tweeted - ear-orgasm (excuse for the lack choice of words here).This is by far, my favourite single by Dir en grey this year.Lotus & Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami are not really addictive compare to Different Sense(for me).As stupid as this sound to me, I ordered the last 2 singles before it came out but I didn't this time.Maybe I should.Or just grab the $200 worth album in August.end story.

I didn't know why everyone was making a big fuss over the video.Comments like "oh noes tentacle pron in Dir en grey's latest" didn't sound fishy to me.So I was naive.Googled.

so now I know.The video is not a pretty sight.Not gory like Obscure was though.As always, there must be a reason behind this.Dir en grey is the only band I know that always express their thoughts,their roots in almost every lyrics, video.They might be condemning their own country, the people but it shows the reality can be harsh.They don't agree how things are done in their birthplace.My wild guess is..well, probably revolve around hentai, sexual demeanor of the people.I haven't gotten around to see the translation of the lyric yet.

The interpretation of the music video's story is very subjective. We don't want to push this onto anybody. It is a story that makes us as a band feel something as well. We have worked with the director Hiroyuki Kondo for many years. We started by asking him to listen to the track and then express what he felt, this is where the overall concept for the video came from. Borrowing our director's words "in order to create or express something in Japan now, it is unavoidable for an element of grotesque to not be part of that expression".

"Whether a form of expression is 'harmful' or not is being determined by the values of those in the power, however in Japan now the expression of the view 'the world is beautiful, the future does not change' is actually more harmful, and I don't think there is anything as uninteresting to look at as an expression of the values of those in power."

This is precisely a way of thinking that the band relates to, and we feel this was the right concept.

The experiment.Men created the monster themselves, in the end it destroyed them.That must be one of the subjective, hidden message, I presume.So awesome,awe-inspiring. Makes me want to fly to Japan & beg Mr Hiroyuki Kondo to take me as an apprentice.

Hayao Miyazaki sensei, thank you for your stories that keep us alive.Joe Hisaishi-san, thank you for creating beautiful melody that goes along with our imagination.Studio Ghibli, thank you for the memories.

Listening to Joe Hisaishi's Kaze no Toori Michi (Path of Wind) while typing this, imagining the big tree grows, Totoro, Satsuki & Mei chanting (sort of) together in my mind. Totoro is an icon in Japan.People of all ages, from all walks of life knew this imaginary creature created by Hayao Miyazaki.Some people would say Studio Ghibli is an Asian answer to West Walt Disney.Could be true but I chose not to compare these two, both produced great films that accompanied most of us while growing up.No doubt, I'd choose Studio Ghibli anytime of the day.I chose to visit Studio Ghibli instead of Tokyo Disneyland.March 11, 2011: the day the disaster happened in Northern Japan, shaken people of Japan.

From my observation after the tour, Hayao Miyazaki is:
: a heavy smoker, a coffee drinker.The ashtray was full with cigarette butts.Coffee at his drawing table.Some snacks, peanuts and mints.Like those sore throat mints in tin boxes.
: a reader, or person who collects books.He has like dozens & dozens of books, from gardening to military, revolution et cetera.Some scene from My Neighbour Totoro, which Satsuki's & Mei's father room will explains best how Miyazaki's room looks like.
: there were many books laying around.I thought I'd see only books in just a room, I was wrong.More books in other rooms piled up.I'd like to stay there & read all those books.
: he probably collects, for not wanting to waste the pencils that he used.There was a big jar of those short pencils.I do not know what you call those..
: all his sketches, drawings, watercolour jars,tubes,brushes were up for display.I was playing with Miyazaki sensei's drawing tools!*sniffles*
:He snapped photos from his traveling days.There were few photo albums contained, like details on gates, mirrors etc.This inspires me to do so, research.
: there were photo frames & photos of European from ..I do not know what era.I guess it's safe to say, some of his works are influenced by European arts/revolution.Like say, in Howl's Moving Castle & Kiki's Delivery Service.
: will add once I remember more..

As photography weren't allowed in the museum, I bought some postcards and snapped pictures of it for you to see how the museum looks like.I remember reading somewhere, reason why photography aren't allowed is because Miyazaki wants the visitors to pay attention to the details and let your brain absorb things you see and imprint it in your mind instead.Guess it works.Most of the time I was in awe how the tiny little details that were put together to bring all these creatures alive even though it's just figures and not real life mascot like you see in Disneyland/Universal Studio.I will definitely return to this place in the future & meet Totoro at the reception.(forgotten to snap pic of Totoro as I ran into the museum instead and missed him sigh).If you have the chance, please do visit this place.I cannot describe how awesome the experience was (add earthquake, mind you).The ticket will only cost you 1000Yen.When you in Japan, head to Lawson.Better yet, get your Japanese friend to do for you (was lucky a friend helped) or the staff.Details here: http://www.lawson.co.jp/ghibli/museum/ticket/english.html

First post for 2011.I hardly have the time anymore, but keeping myself occupied is good.For 2011, I want to work harder.I'm not content with my achievement so far - not that I've achieved anything tremendously huge anyways.

The Gazette's latest single Pledge has the Japanese dorama essence.If I'm not wrong Aoi tweeted the female is indeed an actress.Oh well.Not really my cup of tea but I'm not complaining since it's black & white!The contrast of the pv is really intense, my favourite.Guess it works for the dramatic scenes.Probably Ruki has something to do with the colour theme as well - which designer doesn't like the black & white theme? (though an acquaintance who's a painter claimed monochrome isn't colour (-_-)

The cover art are too pretty that I had a crazy idea of buying them all.Things with the Japanese music industry, they'll make a hole in your wallet.They'll come up with 3-4 versions of a single, or album at a time.Of course it depends on the budget but it could really turn you into a greedy fan (like me).Things you would do to spend your hard earned cash sigh.Someone will definitely make a huge fuss if I order all 3 at a time, no price for guessing!

From pv point of view : keep this in mind, a lady in black moving gracefully is a good aesthetic element in any dreamy themed video.See Chris Cunningham's Frozen (Madonna), Jewel's Foolish Game & Floria Sigismondi's Fighter (Christina Aguilera).My only gripe would be Miyavi's wardrobe.He's being..himself.Fine, the song is about self motivation, he didn't need to be some character out of fantasy book (though it would be nice to have a nice change of clothes, Miyavi-san).The location is perfect too.I'd love to see this scenery myself.As a person who's obsessed with colors - it could be better.But I'm liking what I see so far.

random note: some friends said I haven't been myself lately.I guess it's true.There are subtle changes in myself, not obvious but noticeable.A dear friend said "do whatever you should, for yourself".Another said "you're not the Fairy I know anymore".I'm sorry, I'm still trying.Thank you for your concern..I know you're reading this :)

I just feel like posting it after hearing sad news involving deaths, babies.I lost my father recently, but I never knew how would it feel to lose your own baby.Ignorant people would say the feelings would be the same, losing someone dear to you.But then again, when you carry a tiny you inside I'm pretty sure that would be a different feeling.The lyrics are moving & powerful indeed..I hope the translation would convey the meaning almost perfectly as in Japanese.

White would be death.The girl is embryo.Red room would be the mother's uterus.The girl was wearing red at the beginning, she begins to paint the room white.Eventually she stayed put behind the band members & wore white..meaning she's no longer alive.

At first I thought it contains anti-abortion message.Similar to Kyo, Ruki's lyrics are pretty deep.I'd say Kyo is a complex, complicated person while Ruki's deep & thoughtful.I have no idea when I saw the pv, not till I saw the translation & interpretation of the visual from the internet.I knew it is meant to convey a message but..a red room, a girl in red & white & white paint? Very thought provoking.This song is from the mother's point of view.How she longing to see her own child but no longer there.Some say it's how the mother gave up the child, and regretted doing so.I would choose the first interpretation.I don't doubt that not every mother in this world is capable of taking care of her own child.I should know better.

From the artistic point: The concept is great.Very nice bokeh.The desaturated colors added to the serene yet sorrowful atmosphere.

This is my favourite pv to watch in the MRT.I could watch this on repeat.Somehow, it always inspires me on the way to work.It definitely has to do with the scheme color (plus the song of course).For people who knew me, they'd say "this is so you".I tried to play around with different color tones, more vibrant, more hues but each time I failed.I would always (unintentionally) play with the same color tone on every(almost) single piece of work I did.Recently I was supposed to color correct a trailer for a reality tv show that's gonna be pitched for Bio channel.I was going for warm kinda feeling, but somehow..there, I did it again.By the time I realized I was like 'oh shit, this again', it was too late.Fortunately the director liked it, phew.It's almost like a trademark, my friends immediately recognized my works.I need more colors in my life, if anyone can help me to cure this matter please tell me how to.There, one solid reason why I liked this video very much.Wait, I loved it.That and the ballerina, it reminds me of Slipknot's Vermillion pv.

I've been meaning to post something else but..The song was given to my husband a day after the funeral.I was quite surprised, coming from him as he didn't listen much to JRock (except for Kyo's voice/Dir en grey).I knew this song existed but I've always preferred The Gazette's newer stuff.I didn't know why but I was really drawn to it the first time I heard it (without knowing the meaning behind it.).Maybe because I was numb & something about Ruki's voice.When I found out the translation & the deeper reason he created Chizuru, this instantly in my play list.I pictured the visual the first time I heard it & it was almost similar to what I've imagined.Water.A female.Black & white.Even down to the last shot of my favourite flower, calla lily.Maybe it was pure coincidence, or maybe the song instantly attached to me.Thanks to Ruki, my Kanji improved & my Japanese vocabulary expanded.It certainly sounds beautiful in Japanese.

This would be a first time I'm posting my thoughts here.Twitter can't help as it's too short.A blog posting from a dear friend triggered this thoughts.A recent conversation with a cousin brought this on my mind.He came back recently from the UK, had a few relationships with Caucasian girls.None lasted till he came back to Malaysia, he's currently dating a Punjabi girl.Of course I was shocked, for a while I tried to picture it in my brain before I chuckled like an idiot.

me: back to your own original roots aye?
cousin: that's what everyone been saying.I got teased till today.

I laughed hard at him but he just nodded in agreement.It was a victorious moment for me as I never saw him that speechless.Anyway, we agreed that our family 3rd generation are made of a bunch of hopeless mixed marriage children.None of us speak fluent Punjabi.Let's face it, I suck in that language.The language my father spoke, grew up with & proud of.Before he went, he only conversed in these 2 languages, Punjabi & Cantonese.Not Bahasa Malaysia, not even English.I struggled so hard to talk to him in my rusty Cantonese, not using it ever since my Cantonese grandmother passed away.My grandfather used to sing lullabies for me in his own language, but I couldn't even remember a tiny bit of it till recently my aunt taught me to.Still, I can't pick up the language at all.We both regret not learning it properly.But it's never too late eh?I admit my tongue are more into the Oriental side, because I was very fond of my grandmother.No one will believe me if I mention I'm a Punjabi, they'll look at me funny.I inherited my grandmother's genes, the boys inherited the Punjabi side more.Bushy eyebrows, thick sharp nose, defined jaws and dimples.I have..none, except for my straight thick boned shoulders.When I was young, my Malay grandmother would call me "anak bai" or she would insert "kaur" at the back of my name.My father always reminded me "no matter what other people say, you're a Punjabi.Do not forget that.You're my child".People often asked me "what are you?".I'd just shrugged off and said I don't really know.Come to think of it, perhaps I was confused with my own identity.I barely know the language, how could I admit I'm one of them?

I realized what am I when I reached 19.Kinda late but least I'm not afraid to admit anymore (though there were occasions I wouldn't admit so coughcough).Anyway, my father always been an idol for me.He knew English, BMalaysia, Punjabi, Tamil, Chinese dialects (Canto,Hokkien,Hakka, a bit of Teochew but not Mandarin).How awesome is that ? Of course he taught me..Cantonese bad languages .He said, that's the basic things to master.I picked up Hokkien & Mandarin easily nowadays, it reminds me of my father.

Therefore, what I wanted to post here is an open letter to myself.When I reached 30, I shall look at this letter & ask myself if I achieved any of this.In a way, I'd like to think that I'd make my father proud.

I pledge to fulfill this task given by my own 25 year old self.I hereby declare that I shall do this, for my self.As stated here:

+ to polish up my Cantonese conversational skill.Be it good or bad.
+ to master Japanese language.By 30 I shall know more than 2000 Kanji words.
+ to be able to strike a proper conversation in Punjabi.

and of course, I should improve English/B Malaysia, as well as Singlish/Manglish dialects (haha).Amin.

There's 3 prominent male singers on the JRock scene, well only 3 I know of, they certainly have HUGE fangirls base.Inoran doesn't count, there are males idolizing him too.Hyde, Gackt & this guy - Miyavi.JPop obviously has more, but I ...don't care.I never know about this guy's music..all I know his fangirls are among the scariest people on earth (ok I exaggerate but you get the point).I kid you not.His marriage caused major uproar all over the world wide web.Poor fella, his wife is so pretty!...I never liked his ridiculous androgynous image.I don't deny he's ridiculously good looking too - less make up, the better.

So someone on LJ suggested one of his songs to me - oh hey this guy is not bad!I might actually get one of his cds -CDJapan loves me, very much so.He's good, I kinda like his raspy voice.The way he's playing the guitar too..well he has his own style.Anyway, this song is so cute!I'm not sure what's it about..a vampire in love? The best part about the pv, a JRocker playfully dancing along Spanish (somewhat) tune - you don't see that everyday.So now I know why Miyavi's fangirls go crazy over him..that settled my curiosity.I couldn't find what's good about Hyde/Gackt though.

Some people may think it's childish.No, not really.The characters may seem all cute & cuddly, but the story is turning into rather serious & confusing these days.The plot is quite deep if I may say.When Sora's asleep, his Nobody, Roxas awakes.If you don't understand this Kingdom Hearts talk: Sora's so-called-alter ego Roxas awakes in search of his true self.Roxas awakened when Sora tried to save Kairi...I'll stop or you'll be confuzzled.So basically: friendship.darkness & lightness in hearts.I nearly cried in the end of the game.Yep, that big of influence on me :|

ps: Tetsuya Nomura (character designer for Final Fantasy franchise) is the main creator.I love how the details on their costumes, especially the big zippers!The song "Passion" is the main theme, so yes a double post of the same song.

Kazuya Kiriaki is one of my idol.His work with ex-wife Hikki never fails to amaze me.Was a photographer, now he's into film too.Reviews about his two films weren't that impressive, have yet to see (I'm hoping it wouldn't crush the impression I had haha).Since I have b&w fetish, this one is my fav too.Loved the details (look at the figurines, the pop-up card.ah).the props.The music is beautiful (as expected from Hikki).I had no words when I watched the making of.Like..holy crap.

Contrary to some belief, Manson did have some sad melancholy songs.Yes it's not all about screaming & shouting top of his lungs out.I loved the song, so does the video.It's a rather..funny dramatic one.In fact, according to some info, it's one of the most requested video on MTV.It's a controversial one too, it featured reenactment of assassination of John F Kennedy.That's the part I find funny..Manson can act.Rather diva-ish too.His videos are always thought provoking.Well, most of it anyways.Not sure about the latest ones.After the "Golden Age of Grotesque", I stopped listening to his new stuff.

The year was 2000. Among the first videos why-I-want-to-do-art-instead-of-deadboringformulasofmathsandscience - THIS. Saw it, loved it. It's in noir, my fav colour. Noir - Black in French. Surprise surprise!It's not a Japanese thing again, you may say. As long as it's artsy fartsy/my cup of tea - ♥. The make up. the props. the illustration. the framing of the video made it even more interesting.

Directed by English W.I.Z, a tribute for Oscar Wilde's Salomé. Inspired by original Salomé art (by Aubrey Beardsley).Beardsley is a known artist during the Art Nouveau era, his style is dark erotic grotesque - google will be your answer. Billy Corgan stated this, "Stand inside your Love" is the only true love song he's ever written. The main character of the video, Yelena Yemchuk used to date him. sigh. 鼓動 / Kodou - my jaw literally dropped when I first saw this video. First thought - THEY HAVE MATURED!and it made me a loyal fan girl ever since. Not to mention the song itself is sexy. The screamo part. The heavy guitar riff & distortion. The screamo again.Till today I still have this song as my ring tone. Kyo is a great performer.

Why this video is awesome -

The video tells a story.
The editing is superb, it's a fast jump cut. Hella lot of work.
Camera angles - can't have a better word for how much I'm liking the cinematography in here.
The lighting - loved how some parts are silhouettes of them rocking.
The song (duh!)
The story - homicidal teenager. Wait, yea pretty common nowadays but it's pretty much the connection between this and 朔 Saku sums up how much I loved the storyline.period.

Diru's Obscure -Wicked song. The pv is a brilliant piece of work from Hiroyuki Kondoh. The colour correction. The make up. The props. Lets not forget the icky slimy from the beginning of the video. Love the fact they added the Japanese culture as part of this.This, totally not to been seen if you're pregnant or "holy". Might offend you in some ways. It does involve babies - dead. I did not post gory shots - well, some but believe me ..there's more morbid scenes in the video. Never exactly knew what's this song is about - maybe miscarriage, maybe abortion, maybe prostitution. Who knows, only Kyo knew it well. Toshiya is one good looking vampire, hands down. Robert-whatever-Twilight should learn from him.

I love Dir en grey music videos. Apart from Kodou (鼓動) this is definitely among top 5 fav video.What's there not to like, the video conveys the message perfectly. Though it's a bit raw, considering some images were just edited together with the previous version (the promotional ver).Now I know why they only released this on the DVD instead, apparently the Japanese censorship is not fond of the band (or so I read Kaoru's interview).They make beautiful artsy music video. period. I should be born a Japanese instead.

The newly wed.It was a beautiful wedding, lovely bride and the..groom.(sorry Jay!)-don't you feel weird to compliment your guy friends?i do!haha!I didn't manage to snap alot, mainly because I was intimidated by some people haha coughcough lets just say I chickenedout -if there's such a word.I didnt make good use of Jalil's 18-70 lens either

my hand were sweaty,camera was too heavy hence pictures were blur, mostly
I was more comfortable with 50mm :|

Pictures from the night before wasn't good, body+lens+speedlight was heavy for me.Rugi betul!I learned 2 lessons

I should've fill up my 4Gb card (I brought 8 Gb tsk tsk)
I should learn more about other lens...

this is not a rant/ramblings/dear diary entry.I needed to mark the date!

the day that I will always remember.Had a chat with idol, which lasted for awhile.(literally..I talked to her agent and he translated to her).And she asked her agent to snap a picture of us together.I was being silly tho..hubby did say that as well.Nervous around her which sounds funny as hell..heck she's only 1 yr older (and she's a female!). Felt intimidated by her reputation & talent, not her height.Didn't introduce myself..bah :| !oh well, despite the crappy morning, I had fun towards the end (minus sore throat and dehydration).Apart from mydreamcametruethatimet Aya Kato,I had the chance to ask opinions from Mr Jackson Tan & Mr Felix Ng, had a brief chat with Nathalie Fallaha (Hanie likes her hair) > check out her work!I've never came across good designers from the Middle East, this is totally exciting & neat stuff.I know I know, I'm such an ignorant, that part of the world never appeals to me that much except Morocco.

But I missed Shun Kawakami's appearance, he was part of yesterday's class (freaking expensive!).I'm glad that I saved munny (that's money in Kingdom Hearts language) for the event, which sacrificed lepaking with friends & restrain myself from shop.
